Planning the perfect family vacation

Some all inclusive resorts for the family even provide vacation nannies, supervised day-care, and/or babysitting. Others may have a teen disco. Children stay free at some resort hotels. Others offer a deep discount for children. Some can accommodate larger families and allow up to 3 children and 2 adults in a room.

An interesting note: There’s a new trend online in “get it together” vacations: making it easier to book trips for friends or family members who live in different cities but want to meet up for a holiday. Disney, for example, introduced online booking features about a year ago to help family members and friends converge upon Disney World for some “togethering”.

Many all inclusive family resort hotels have adult-only restaurants and areas, children-only and adult-only pools, and water parks. The Internet is your ideal source for information and booking. There are many sites available. And, you’ll be pleased at the number of discounted packages available to you when you go online.

If you decide to take a family trip and not go to one of the all inclusive resorts, keep these things in mind. The leaky diapers, the flat refusals, the tablecloth pulled off at the restaurant… It’s true; travel with small kids has its perils.
Yet, years later, family trips are often our best memories of our kids’ young years and just may be the most perfect family vacation ever! The years pass quickly, so enjoy your time together now.

Seven Essential Tips

1. Prepare. Take lots of snacks, drinks, amusements, (see below) on long plane rides – and, really, everywhere you go.
2. Pace. Don’t try to do too much! Schedule one major activity per morning, or afternoon; if all goes well, you can perhaps slip in a second activity. (Don’t mention the second activity until you’re certain, though – avoid disappointment!)
3. Pacing also means allowing extra time in the day for some down time, and some wild time: kids need rest periods, and they also need to run around and let off some steam.
4. Pre-empt: offer snacks and drinks before kids get too hungry or thirsty. Take a break before they’re overtired.
5. Also: watch out for those small but tell-tale signs that your kids need a rest: that change in tone, that particular frown…
6. Patience: and more patience. Patience actually saves time, in the long run: it’s far quicker to muster an extra five minutes of patience than to spend fifteen minutes coaxing a three-year-old out of a snit. Remember: even the bad moments of your travels with wee ones will look very precious, once they’ve grown into large-size kids!
7. And perhaps most important of all: Play. Have fun with your kids!

Preparation is key when planning the perfect family vacation requires air travel–whether you’re rich, poor, young, old, or if you’re strict oror not you are probably dreading long plane rides with babies and toddlers. Relax: it probably won’t be as bad as you fear.

How to Survive Plane Rides With Kids:

1. Bring plenty of snacks and juice boxes: it may be a long time before the flight attendants can bring food or drinks.
2. For bottle-feeding babies, bring ready-made formula (small size), or powdered formula and bottled water.
3. Bring three more diapers than you think you’ll need. And zip-loc bags for any soiled clothes.
4. Bring baby-wipes even with older kids, to clean up dribbles down shirt-fronts, spills, etc.
5. For babies, bring several changes of clothes, and extra clothes for yourself if possible ( – the worst can happen).
6. An extra t-shirt for older kids can come in handy too – seems to be easy to spill drinks on planes.
7. Keep your stroller until the last possible moment (usually right until you board the plane): if your flight is delayed, your child can sleep in the stroller. Umbrella strollers are handiest.
8. With toddlers, expect to spend a lot of time walking your child up and down the aisles on the plane!
9. Bring along some plastic food containers, to keep half-eaten or untouched meals for later – Bring closable drink containers too.
10. Take plenty of amusements: inexpensive novelties – in three layers of wrapping – work wonders. (See list of “stuff to bring on trips” below.)
11. With tiny kids, expect to spend pretty much every minute taking care of them. Forget that in-flight movie; you can watch it when they’re nine or older. (Sheer luxury.)
12. If you need water or juice for your small child, don’t hesitate to walk to the kitchen area and nicely request it.
13. Don’t give out your loot (treats, toys, etc.) too soon! Make sure to hold back enough surprises to last the whole trip.
14. To avoid ear pressure problems, have babies either nurse, or suck their bottles during takeoffs and landings; small kids can suck on a candy or chew gum.

By land, sea or air-—planning the perfect family vacation will be far easier for you if you turn to the Internet for ideas, travel packages and the lowest prices available. Whatever you do, it would be wise to plan and book your reservations early.

Las Vegas Weather

Las Vegas fire

Contrary to what some people think, Las Vegas weather does have four seasons. Yes, the seasons are different than you would experience in a Northern state, but they exist nonetheless. Let’s take a look at what they are like.

Normal high temperatures in Las Vegas, in the middle of Winter, are around 55 degrees farenheit. Daily normal lows hover around 35. Lows have been recorded as low as 8 degrees. Temperatures into the 80s have been recorded in March as Winter was ending. Las Vegas hasn’t has a major snowstorm in years, but in January 1979 Las Vegas received 9.9 inches of snow, and in January 1949 Las Vegas was hit with 16.7 inches! January and February tend to be rainier than most months, but they still average well below an inch of rain.

The normal high for Las Vegas in Spring starts around 70 degrees, and by the time Spring is ending the average high is 100. Temperatures as high as 116 have been measured near the end of Spring, that’s just a degree short of the highest temperature measured in Las Vegas in the past 80 years. Spring is particularly dry in most years, with less than half an inch, on average.falling in the months of April, May, and June combined. Humidity is also low, and bottoms out in June.

The normal high for Summer in Las Vegas is over 100, although is dips below 100 after September 1. Humidity increases in July and August, and the number of thunderstorms increases to about 3 per month for those two months. Lows have been measured in the 50s in September, but 80s is normal for July and August, dipping into the 70s in mid September.

The temperatures in Fall decrease faster than they increase in Spring. The daily average temperature on September 1 is 99, by December 1 its 60. If someone tells you they were swimming and sunbathing in Las Vegas in the Fall it was probably not late Fall. Rain levels are lower than they are in January, February, July or August.

There are two weather phenomenon that can be potentially dangerous in Las Vegas (three if you consider the rare but potentially crippling snowstorms). One is wind. Wind can happen any time of year, and gusts into the 90s have been recorded in the flat, open valley that Las Vegas is situated in. Wind is rarely life threatening, but its strong enough that you should take it into consideration when enjoying the outdoors here. The other, more serious problem, is flooding. Rain amounts that wouldn’t raise an eyebrow in many locations can cause flash flooding in Las Vegas. Besides having hard ground that isn’t very absorbent, Las Vegas is in a bowl-like valley, surrounded by mountains. Water runs from on high and accumulates in low lying areas. Pay attention to flash flood watches and warnings, and unless its an emergency stay off of the roads during a flooding situation.

Las Vegas – How to Have Non Gambling Related Fun

Britney

One of the greatest things about Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City (but especially Las Vegas) is the number of shows that are available. You can get to watch top class comedians like Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano, Tim Allen and even the likes of Bill Cosby and Chris Rock. If you are into music you can watch female singers like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Beyonc?, male performers like Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Snoopy Dog and bands like Oasis and Bon Jovi. I could go on and on but the list is endless. If you are into magic you can watch magicians like David Copperfield do their thing meters from you. Whatever you like, you can find it here from Western music to oldies to Jazz, Rock, Heavy Mettle to Trance. All you have to do is look at the itenary offered during your visit.

Food:
Chinese to Japanese to Korean to Jewish and even Vegetarian and proper meat eating establishments await your every delight in Vegas. Do not opt for the cheap and oily fried dishes served for free while you play. Stop a while and take in the delightful scenery and smells of East Asian or European dishes. What is wondrous is that you get to see man’s ability to mix. A real melting pot if I may say so myself.

But is that all what casino cities like Las Vegas are about? Do you have to remain in the city to really and truly enjoy your stay?

No.

Here are some of the better attractions you must see on your visit to Vegas:

Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon:
Book yourself a seat on any of the many sightseeing tours available and go and watch the architectural marvel that is Hoover Dam built over the Grand canyon which is also a grand sight to see by itself. Black Canyon is another must see as is Lake Mead which is so beautiful just because it is a body of water all surrounded by desert-like nature.

Colorado River:
While looking at the Dam and Canyon is from above, to see the true beauty of the river, you have to go down. The Colorado river is excellent for river-rafting and water sports, but you do not have to take part if it is not your thing. Instead just sit back and enjoy another of nature’s marvels.

Bonnie Springs:
Who can not resist going to one of the old towns like those in the Western gun slinging movies? Your destination needs to be Old Nevada. There you can delight in an old western town right in the middle of Red Rock Canyon. They host western shootouts too so come prepared, partner!

Conclusion:
I could go on and on about other attractions like the theme park in Circus Circus, the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary, the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and Mt. Charleston but I think you get the picture. In Las Vegas and hate gambling? Do not despair. Just go out and have some clean un-gambling fun.
